NiMet has predicted three days of rain and thunderstorms nationwide, warning of possible flash floods in northern and central states.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across many parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet said northern states including Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina will experience thunderstorms with moderate rain on Monday morning, extending to Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba by afternoon. “Flash floods are possible in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States during this period,” the agency warned.
Central states such as Niger, Benue, Plateau, and the FCT will see cloudiness with light to moderate rainfall, while southern states will record widespread showers. Rainfall is expected to intensify by midweek, with heavier storms forecast in Rivers, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet advised residents in flood-prone areas to prepare emergency responses, avoid driving in heavy rain, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms. Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports.
