The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country from Sunday to Tuesday, urging citizens to take safety precautions.

In a weather outlook issued Saturday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds in northern Nigeria, with morning thunderstorms expected over Taraba State on Sunday. Later in the day, storms are anticipated in Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Adamawa.

The North-Central region will also see cloudy skies with possible thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi states throughout the three days.

NiMet stated: “In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Abia, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom, with more widespread storms in the afternoon.”

By Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Sokoto, Taraba, Bauchi, and Kaduna.

NiMet warned, “Strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.” The agency advised the public to fasten loose objects, avoid driving in heavy rain, and disconnect appliances during storms.

Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning.
