The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms over Taraba, Kaduna, and Adamawa States on Wednesday, with storms expected later in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Gombe, and others.

North-central states including Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory will experience morning thunderstorms, followed by widespread rainfall later.

“In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with chances of morning rain over parts of Ondo, Ekiti and Edo States,” it stated. Isolated thunderstorms are expected across most southern states in the afternoon and evening.

The pattern is set to continue through Thursday and Friday with similar storm activity nationwide.

“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur,” NiMet warned. “Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets.”

Airline operators are urged to consult NiMet for flight-specific weather updates.
