Persistent rainfall recorded over Adamawa and Taraba states puts the states at high risk of flooding
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has issued fresh flood alerts for parts of Nigeria, warning of elevated risks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adamawa, Taraba and Benue. The agency cited persistent rainfall as a key driver behind the heightened threat.
In its weather outlook valid from Monday to Wednesday this week, NiMET noted that “persistent rainfall recorded over Adamawa and Taraba states puts the states at high risk of flooding.” It further highlighted a “high possibility of flood occurring over parts of Bauchi and Kebbi states.”
Turning to the central region, early light rains were expected over Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, the FCT and Niger in the mornings, followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms across Plateau, the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara and Kogi. NiMET underscored that “persistent rainfall recorded over Benue state puts the state at high risk of flooding.”
The agency urged farmers to refrain from applying fertiliser or pesticides ahead of the rains. It also called on communities in the affected areas to remain vigilant until the end of the forecast period.
