The NLC has given the Federal Government four weeks to resolve all issues with tertiary education unions or face nationwide industrial action.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government a four-week ultimatum to conclude all negotiations with unions in the tertiary education sector or face a nationwide strike.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, announced this on Tuesday during an interactive session with labour correspondents in Abuja. He condemned the “no work, no pay” policy imposed on members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), describing it as punitive and counterproductive.
“We have decided to give the federal government four weeks to conclude all negotiations in this sector. If after four weeks this negotiation is not concluded, the organs of the NEC will meet and take a nationwide action,” Ajaero said.
He added, “The so-called policy of no work, no pay will henceforth be no pay, no work.”
Ajaero said the NLC stands in full solidarity with ASUU and other tertiary institution unions in their fight for fair treatment and improved funding.
