Nnamdi Kanu was removed from the Federal High Court in Abuja after a heated clash with Justice Omotosho over a denied bail application.
The courtroom of the Federal High Court in Abuja became tense on Monday as detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu clashed with Justice James Omotosho following the dismissal of his latest bail application, according to a report from SAHARAREPORTERS. Kanu objected to the ruling, demanding, “Show me the law. Justice Omotosho. Show me the law? Any judgement from this court is a kangaroo. It is premeditated.”
Justice Omotosho urged Kanu to compose himself, stating, “This is the decision. I appeal to you to compose yourself. This is the Temple of Justice,” before ordering that he be removed from the court. The judge cited statutory provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, which bar courts from granting reliefs capable of stalling ongoing criminal proceedings, noting that Kanu’s application fell outside permissible categories of bail under Section 306 of the ACJA.
Eyewitnesses reported a tense standoff as Kanu resisted removal, insisting that the court first hear his final submissions. Justice Omotosho reaffirmed that the court could not entertain the application, highlighting that the defence had already submitted its final address.
Kanu had also filed a motion challenging the validity of the terrorism charges against him, arguing that the repealed Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act rendered the charges unlawful and requesting that the case be struck out. The matter now proceeds toward judgment, with Kanu retaining the option to appeal at the Court of Appeal.
The high-profile trial remains closely watched nationwide, with the recent confrontation further delaying proceedings.
