Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, said the magistrate presiding over his case declined to hear the defence before ordering his remand in Kuje prison.
Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, has alleged that the magistrate handling his case refused to hear the defence’s submissions before ordering his remand in Kuje prison.
Ejimakor confirmed his safety in a post on X, saying, “I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje Prison. The magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way.”
A magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, had ordered the remand of Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu — Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother — and ten others after their arraignment by the police.
They were accused of inciting disturbance and breaching public peace during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.
According to court documents shared by Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, the defendants allegedly obstructed traffic and chanted war songs.
Police spokesperson ACP Benjamin Hundeyin earlier said those arrested would face charges following investigation.
