Former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi has reiterated his indifference to wealth, revealing his wife does not own a car and relies on his backup vehicle. The ex-Minister of Transportation, who lost the APC presidential primary in 2023, maintained his long-standing claim of financial detachment. “Are you not surprised that I have been in Nigerian politics from when I was 22 till now? I am 60. So, you are talking about 38 years of being in politics,” he told Daily Sun.
Amaechi, who served as governor, House Speaker, and minister, challenged critics to cite any corruption scandals against him. “What scandals have you heard of me? Have you heard ‘oh, Amaechi stealing money?’” he asked. Defending his frugality, he added, “As you entered here, did you see posh cars? My wife doesn’t even have a car. I have to provide my backup car.”
