“This is not about christians vs. muslims” — Omokri challenges western narrative

Reno Omokri has urged U.S. Senator Ted Cruz to address the roots of Nigeria’s terrorism crisis and avoid portraying it as a purely anti-Christian campaign.

Nigerian author and activist Reno Omokri has called on U.S. Senator Ted Cruz to adopt a more informed approach to Nigeria’s religious crisis, warning against framing it as a Christian genocide. According to Omokri, “anybody anywhere that says Christians are not being killed in Nigeria by terrorists is lying. But a bigger lie is to say that only Christians are being killed.”

He traced the origins of the violence to the 2011 destabilisation of Libya under the Obama administration, which, he said, led to the spread of armed mercenaries across the Sahel. Omokri explained that groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP target both Muslims and Christians in their bid to overthrow secular governments.

He urged Cruz to “look closer to home” at U.S. foreign policy, and to support Nigeria through intelligence and military aid instead of divisive rhetoric. “Physically visit Nigeria,” Omokri advised, “and help promote peaceful religious coexistence.”
