NPF reportedly spent millions on basic items, with costs far above market value.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) paid ₦7,662,992.27 to Waves Fillment Limited on April 5, 2024, for 10 packets of toilet rolls, according to FIJ. The company also received ₦6,116,213.30 the same day for 20 units of Owen’s Rich Biscuit in specified flavours.
FIJ reports Owen’s Rich Biscuit retails for between ₦2,500 and ₦5,000, meaning 20 units cost about ₦100,000 at the highest price. The market cost of the biscuits represents only 1.63% of the amount paid.
High-end toilet roll packs of 48 sell for around ₦45,000 each, meaning 10 packs would cost about ₦450,000 — less than 10% of what NPF paid.
The payment descriptions included “other items,” which the ICPC previously flagged as a loophole for corrupt practices.
FIJ earlier reported similar questionable transactions totaling ₦34.23 million to unnamed companies without clear descriptions.
