The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Katsina United following a violent attack by the club’s fans during their Matchday 12 clash against Barau FC on Saturday.
According to SaharaReporters’ reporting, the NPFL said in a statement on Sunday that Katsina United breached the “Framework & Rules of #NPFL26” after their fans invaded the pitch, assaulting Barau FC players and match officials. The league added that the club “failed to provide adequate & effective security” and “failed to ensure proper conduct of their supporters.”
The NPFL fined the club ₦9 million and ordered all subsequent home games to be played in Jos behind closed doors. “Katsina Utd have 48 hours within the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions,” the statement said.
The violence erupted after Barau’s Orji Kalu scored a 69th-minute equaliser, with Barau FC later confirming that player Nana Abraham sustained a neck injury during the attack.
