Olopade stressed that the Tinubu administration “fulfills promises” to athletes, noting a shift from past delays in honouring commitments.
ABUJA – Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has dismissed reports that the Super Falcons are yet to receive their tournament bonuses, insisting that all entitlements have been paid except for a few cases delayed by banking issues.
Speaking on Arise News TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, Olopade said he had confirmed with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that the bonuses were settled. “I have spoken to Ajibade directly… she vehemently denied ever saying their bonuses have not been paid,” he stated.
He described claims to the contrary as misleading, adding, “The money is in their accounts.”
On President Bola Tinubu’s $100,000 cash gift and three-bedroom apartments promised to each player after their 2025 WAFCON triumph, Olopade assured the pledge would be fulfilled. Discussions with the Minister for Housing and the Renewed Hope Homes project team were ongoing, he said.
