Former U.S. President Barack Obama has praised Harvard University for resisting pressure from the Trump administration over diversity policies, describing the demands as “unlawful.”
Speaking during a virtual fundraiser, Obama said, “I was proud of Harvard for standing up and doing the right thing, not just for the institution, but for the principle that you can’t be bullied — particularly by a White House that was trying to push an unlawful political agenda.”
The comments came in light of new revelations that the Trump administration had pressured Harvard and other universities to abandon race-conscious admissions practices.
