Peter Obi condemned deadly bandit attacks in Kogi and worsening insecurity in Kwara, calling the situation a national emergency.

Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed outrage over renewed violence in Kogi and Kwara states, describing the security situation as a “national emergency.” His reaction followed reports that more than 27 people were killed by armed bandits in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi said the images from the attack were “heartbreaking” and offered condolences to the victims’ families and residents of the state.

He also cited reports that nine out of 16 local government areas in neighbouring Kwara State are under siege by bandits who now demand food and drinks as ransom. The affected LGAs include Baruten, Edu, Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Kaiama, Oke-Ero, Patigi and Irepodun.

“This is not normal,” Obi warned, stressing that citizens are being killed “daily more than in countries at war.” He said government must prioritize the protection of lives and property.
