Obi to Tinubu: Bloodshed and corruption tarnishing Nigeria’s image

The regularity of bloodletting has reduced the news value of human deaths.

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently overhaul his administration’s approach to tackling insecurity and corruption in Nigeria.

In a post shared via his official X handle, the former Anambra State Governor lamented the normalization of mass killings across the country, stating, “The regularity of bloodletting of innocent souls in our country has reduced the news value of human deaths.”

Citing violent incidents in various states, Obi said the nation’s security situation has deteriorated alarmingly. “These are just the ones reported in a single day. Many others go unreported as the violence spreads to every corner of our nation. For a country not officially at war, this is terrifying,” he said.

Obi warned that government silence or weak responses fuel public disillusionment, adding that failure to decisively address insecurity and corruption is “real demarketing” of Nigeria. He urged Tinubu to treat criticisms as constructive and act swiftly.
