Former Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has debunked viral reports of his death, affirming he is in good health and residing in the United States.

Former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has dismissed widespread rumours of his death, assuring Nigerians that he is “alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health.” The clarification came in a statement issued on Thursday, 14 November 2025, according to THE GUARDIAN.

Obiano said he woke up to shocking rumours circulating across social media about his alleged passing. “My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers… Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health,” he declared. He condemned the spread of such “falsehoods,” urging the public to disregard them completely and expressing gratitude to those who reached out with concern.

Obiano, who governed Anambra between 2014 and 2022, remains an influential figure in the state’s political landscape. His message, signed with appreciation and optimism, sought to reassure supporters and friends who had expressed confusion over the unverified claims.

Meanwhile, former Anambra Commissioner for Information, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, also refuted the rumours in a separate statement titled “Former Governor Willie Obiano is Alive, Healthy, and Kicking.” Adinuba said Obiano is residing in Texas, not London as falsely alleged, and remains “healthy, strong, and remarkably agile” at 70. He noted that the global outpouring of concern, including reactions from international media, underscored Obiano’s enduring goodwill and legacy.

The statement concluded by likening the episode to past false death rumors about prominent Nigerian figures.
