The Obidient Movement has reaffirmed Peter Obi’s alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition but rejected pressure for an immediate resignation from the Labour Party, stressing the need for fairness in zoning the 2027 presidential ticket.
The Obidient Movement has faulted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its directive that coalition members resign from their former political parties before being formally recognised.
Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC interim publicity secretary, announced on Thursday that the coalition had given a “final order” for members to quit their old parties, though no timeline was set.
Responding, Obidient Movement national coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said Peter Obi had already aligned with the ADC-led coalition after the Anambra governorship election and for the 2027 general elections. “We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement,” he stated.
Tanko stressed that Obi, while committed to the coalition, must consult widely before responding to any ultimatum. He also called for fairness in zoning, noting: “Considering that the presidency is currently held by the south, issues of equity and fairness must guide such decisions.”
He added that Obi is not desperate for power but focused on building “a Nigeria that works” by tackling poverty and reforming key sectors.
