Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice presidential candidate, has declared his intention to run for president in 2027
Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice presidential candidate, has declared his intention to run for president in 2027. He made the announcement at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Julius Abure-led LP faction in Abuja. Baba-Ahmed, who vowed to reconcile internal party divisions, said: “Labour Party is not one to desert. Its achievements and history in Nigerian politics are both unique and unprecedented.”
He defended attending a coalition meeting, citing national security, but clarified he would not enter “political arrangements blindly.” LP Chairman Abure reaffirmed the faction’s opposition to any 2027 coalition, saying, “We cannot align with politically spent forces.” He also denounced the rival Nenadi Usman faction’s NEC meeting and called it unconstitutional.
Abure urged defectors to return, saying, “If they come back and apologise, we are ready to forgive them.” NEC also approved upcoming congresses across all party levels.
