OYC has extended the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest to October 25, condemning police brutality and demanding the release of detained protesters and IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has announced the extension of the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest to Saturday, October 25, 2025, under the theme “Operation Occupy Abuja.”

In a statement signed by OYC National President Igboayaka Igboayaka and Secretary-General Ifeanyichukwu Nweke, the group described the ongoing protest, led by activist Omoyele Sowore, as “a turning point between political oppressors led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian people.”

The group condemned what it called “serious human rights violations” during the October 20 protest by security forces, alleging the illegal arrest of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and Barrister Mandela Umez.

“The use of tear gas, gunshots, beating, and harassment against peaceful protesters… has exposed Nigeria as a country that violates fundamental human rights,” OYC said.

It demanded the release of detained protesters within 24 hours and urged President Tinubu to free IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, calling his continued detention “an injustice symbolizing Nigeria’s failing justice system.”
