The Deputy National President of an Ohanaeze faction, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said it was the first time since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra War in 1969 that a government had shown such commitment to Igbo needs.

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, citing unprecedented federal investments in the Southeast.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki on Friday, the Deputy National President of an Ohanaeze faction, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said it was the first time since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra War in 1969 that a government had shown such commitment to Igbo needs.

He highlighted the allocation of ₦1.43 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads in the region, the establishment of the Southeast Development Commission, and a $3 billion upgrade of the Port Harcourt–Aba–Ebonyi–Enugu–Makurdi–Lafia–Bauchi–Maiduguri railway to standard gauge.

Other initiatives include the creation of the Southeast Investment Company to attract and manage investments. Isiguzoro said Works Minister Dave Umahi had been tasked with conveying Igbo stakeholders’ positions on Tinubu’s projects.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo affirms that President Tinubu is diligently addressing the critical challenges confronting the Southeast,” the statement read, warning against “orchestrated media attacks” on Umahi.

He urged unity to sustain the emerging partnership between the Southeast and Tinubu’s administration, pledging support “until 2031” to ensure the transformation of the region into a West African economic hub.
