A seven-year-old girl, Saratu Lawal, was fatally knocked down by a vehicle in the convoy of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during her official visit to Akure, Ondo State. The incident occurred near Oba Ile Central Mosque on Thursday, April 17, as the First Lady traveled from the airport to flag off the South-West Renewed Hope Initiative. Despite being rushed to a nearby health center, Saratu, a pupil at Islamiyar Arabic School, Shasha, could not be saved. Her father, Malam Lawali, a trader, said he has “handed everything to God.”
The Ondo State Police Command has yet to comment, as calls and messages to spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olushola went unanswered. The deceased’s body has been released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
