A Resume Genius survey reveals that 23% of Gen Z full-time workers regret attending college, while 19% say their degrees haven’t helped their careers.

A growing number of Generation Z workers are questioning the value of college as AI transforms industries and debt burdens mount.

A Resume Genius survey reveals that 23% of Gen Z full-time workers regret attending college, while 19% say their degrees haven’t helped their careers.

“Gen Z is carrying debt that either personally weighs them down or is tied to a company benefit,” said Kevin Thompson, CEO of 9i Capital Group. “It’s a new kind of indentured servitude.”

Finance expert Michael Ryan noted, “College became this magical ticket… But nobody mentioned the $60,000 a year price tag.”

As employers drop degree requirements and emphasize AI literacy, many graduates feel their education is outdated. Only 32% of respondents said they’re satisfied with their education path.

HR consultant Bryan Driscoll told Newsweek, “Society told Gen Z college was the only path… while still demanding five years of experience for entry-level roles. That math doesn’t add up.”
