A businesswoman, identified as Chinny, has publicly accused one of her employees of stealing building materials worth over ₦500,000 barely a month after being hired. The incident, which occurred at her company’s storage facility, was shared via her Instagram page on Friday, March 28, sparking widespread reactions online.

According to Chinny, security personnel apprehended the employee while attempting to break into the storage unit. Upon interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to previous thefts, admitting to stealing items valued at more than half a million naira.

Stolen Funds Spent on Spiritual Services & Enhancement Products

Further investigations into the suspect’s phone revealed shocking details about how the stolen money was spent. Screenshots shared by Chinny showed transactions for:

  • “Spiritual work” and “favour kits” from vendors offering supernatural services.
  • Aphrodisiacs and penis enlargement oil, priced at ₦15,000 per bottle.

Chat logs indicated that the employee had sought spiritual assistance to attract customers to his side plumbing business, expressing frustration over a lack of clients in a January 26, 2025, conversation. Additionally, messages from February 17 showed inquiries about purchasing sexual enhancement products.

Public Backlash & Debate Over Online Shaming

The case has ignited heated discussions on social media, with many expressing disbelief at the suspect’s spending choices. While some commended Chinny for exposing the theft, others questioned whether publicly sharing private messages was justified.

Legal experts suggest that while employers have the right to pursue theft cases, public shaming could raise privacy concerns.
