The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that only 1.16% of the 40,247 underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) demonstrated exceptional academic performance.

In a post on X, JAMB disclosed that only 467 underage candidates scored high enough to fall into the “exceptional ability” category, adding that “their performance in the subsequent three stages is still pending.”

Of the total 1,955,069 results processed, only 0.63% of candidates scored 300 and above, while over 75% scored below 200 — the standard benchmark for many competitive courses.

The Board also reported 97 cases of confirmed examination infractions and stated that 2,157 candidates remain under investigation.

Additionally, 71,701 candidates were absent from the exam.

JAMB noted that biometric verification challenges are being addressed, with affected candidates to be rescheduled.

A press conference is planned to announce individual results and activate result-checking portals.

JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede earlier said the board created an “Exceptional Window” for brilliant underage candidates.
