The Oyo monarch denied engaging in any royal supremacy battle with any traditional ruler in the country.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has addressed a viral video suggesting a supremacy dispute with the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi. In a statement issued by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, Oba Owoade dismissed the claims as unfounded and fabricated.
The monarch emphasized that the Ooni is revered as the father of the Yoruba people, both traditionally and spiritually. Oba Owoade further clarified that the incident depicted in the video, involving the alleged assault of a monarch’s father from Oyotunji Village in the U.S., was misrepresented. He urged the public to disregard the misleading narrative and uphold the dignity of the Yoruba monarchy.
