Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year.
According to DAILY POST, Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 Player of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The 27-year-old defender clinched the award ahead of Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah of Liverpool. Hakimi succeeds Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman as the continent’s top footballer.
Hakimi, who finished as runner-up for two consecutive years, secured the honour following a stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain. He played a pivotal role in PSG’s successful campaign, helping the French club win the Ligue 1 title, the French Cup, and their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.
Despite being currently sidelined with an injury, Hakimi attended Monday’s awards ceremony, arriving with his foot heavily strapped. His appearance drew attention as he received the prestigious accolade, marking a milestone in a career that has seen steady and consistent growth over recent seasons.
Hakimi’s victory reinforces his status as one of Africa’s most influential footballers, celebrated not only for his defensive capabilities but also for his contributions to PSG’s historic successes last season.
