Victor Osimhen has become Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in UEFA Champions League history after netting his 10th goal in the competition during Galatasaray’s match against Liverpool.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has etched his name into the record books as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League. The forward scored from the penalty spot in the 16th minute during Galatasaray’s clash with Liverpool on Tuesday night, taking his tally to 10 goals.

The milestone saw him surpass former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward Obafemi Martins, who previously held the record with nine goals.

Osimhen scored his first Champions League goal for Lille against Chelsea on October 2, 2019, before adding more during his prolific spell at Napoli and now with Galatasaray.

Beyond Europe’s elite competition, Osimhen’s career continues to shine. He became the first African to win the Serie A Golden Boot in the 2022/23 season with 26 goals for Napoli and was crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year in 2023 — Nigeria’s first winner since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
