Osun APC has rejected Governor Adeleke’s alleged defection attempt, describing him as a liability seeking refuge ahead of 2026.
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged move to join the party, describing him as “a liability” seeking political refuge ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Amid denials by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and endorsements for Adeleke’s re-election and Tinubu’s second term, Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, insisted the governor’s defection attempt was real but swiftly resisted.
“The Osun public is aware that the governor sought refuge in the APC out of fear of defeat in 2026,” Lawal said, accusing Adeleke of damaging the PDP’s credibility.
He described Adeleke as “a Trojan horse” whose entry would tarnish the APC’s image, and dismissed the PDP caucus’s popularity claims as “self-consolatory.”
Lawal also cited mismanagement, alleged corruption, violence from previous elections, and pending EFCC and ICPC probes as further reasons the party opposed Adeleke’s move.
“Adeleke and the PDP should stop complaining and prepare to face the electorate’s judgement in 2026,” he added.
