Oworonshoki demolition: Falana insists court order was properly served on Lagos Govt

Falana & Falana says Lagos ignored a valid court order halting Oworonshoki demolitions.

The law firm of Falana & Falana Chambers has dismissed claims by the Lagos State Attorney-General that no court order was served before the latest round of demolitions in Oworonshoki.

In a statement by counsel Taiwo Olawanle, the firm said the order was granted on October 23 and duly served on the Attorney-General’s office, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and the Ministry of Physical Planning before 3 p.m. on October 24, with acknowledged copies received.

“After serving the court order, residents called to report that over 50 armed policemen had arrived to begin fresh demolitions,” the firm stated.

Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, reportedly contacted top state officials to intervene but was told “nothing would happen.”

The firm warned that disobeying a valid court order amounted to lawlessness and said it had written to the Attorney-General proposing a November 13 meeting to resolve the dispute.
