The Oyo State government has reaffirmed its ban on mobile phones, smart watches, and Meta eyeglasses in schools, particularly during examinations, with a warning of strict consequences for violators.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, announced the directive on Wednesday during a meeting with education stakeholders, including Permanent Secretaries, Inspectors-General of Education, and Heads of Departments.

Olayiwola stressed the need for discipline and integrity in examinations, noting that an existing circular prohibits students from bringing phones into school premises and exam halls. He urged school authorities to enforce the rule strictly.

Additionally, he clarified that smart watches, Meta eyeglasses, and other electronic devices that could aid malpractice are also banned.

The commissioner called on teachers, parents, and guardians to monitor students closely, stating:

“We must all work together to uphold the integrity of our education system and maintain discipline across our schools.”
