The ICPC has launched an investigation into lawyer Mike Ozekhome following a UK property tribunal ruling that tied him to a web of forgeries and fraud involving corrupt Nigerian officials.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has opened an investigation into senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome after a UK property tribunal linked him and others to a web of forgery and fraud.

The probe follows a petition by Olanrewaju Suraj of HEDA, referencing a London judgment that found Ozekhome and his son used falsified Nigerian identity documents to claim ownership of a North London house. “These findings reveal a grave conspiracy,” the petition read, accusing unnamed Nigerian officials of aiding the forgery.

The ICPC has summoned those named in the judgment. Ozekhome told Premium Times he was unaware of the probe.

Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi confirmed his office is reviewing the case, describing it as “a matter that bears sadly on the integrity of the Nigerian legal profession.”

The Nigerian Bar Association also called for accountability, urging that the “case must not be swept under the rug.”
