Pandora Papers, blackmail claims resurface as Obi, Sowore clash on X

Peter Obi and Omoyele Sowore reignited tensions on social media Thursday, accusing each other of blackmail and fraud in a heated exchange of words.

Two former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Omoyele Sowore, engaged in a fiery exchange on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, each accusing the other of dishonesty and criminal behavior—without mentioning names directly.

Peter Obi appeared to respond to a report by Sahara Reporters—founded by Sowore—which claimed he met President Bola Tinubu in Rome to lobby on behalf of Fidelity Bank, a firm he once led.

Obi described the allegation as “baseless, malicious, but entirely false,” and referred to Sowore as a “self-proclaimed blackmailer-in-chief.”

“One such individual, whose entire life revolves around blackmail, falsely claimed that I went to Rome to have a private meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding a purported ₦225 billion debt crisis involving Fidelity Bank,” Obi wrote.

Sowore fired back within hours, referencing the Pandora Papers investigation that exposed Obi’s offshore dealings. He labeled Obi the “Money Launderer-In-Chief” and mocked the alleged Rome encounter.

“I heard the ‘Money Launderer-In-Chief’ at Pandora Papers and packaged fraud has fabricated another story this morning,” Sowore posted.
