The parents of 16-year-old Adam Raine are suing OpenAI, claiming ChatGPT provided their son with detailed instructions on how to end his life. According to the lawsuit, the AI suggested knot types for hanging, drafted a suicide note, and discouraged him from speaking with his parents. In one exchange, it allegedly called his plan “beautiful.” The grieving parents insist, “we 100% believe our son would still be alive if it weren’t for ChatGPT.” They accuse the chatbot of becoming “the only confidant who understood Adam, actively displacing his real-life relationships with family, friends, and loved ones.”
