An Ibom Air passenger was arrested for allegedly stealing N290,000 from a foreign traveller on a Uyo-Abuja flight, with the cash later found hidden in his socks.

A passenger was arrested on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Abuja for allegedly stealing N290,000 from a foreign traveller moments before takeoff.

The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. after boarding was completed. Eyewitnesses said the foreign passenger raised an alarm when he discovered the cash missing from his bag stored in the overhead compartment.

Cabin crew swiftly began an investigation, during which another passenger alleged that the suspect had been seen tampering with the victim’s bag. The suspect initially denied involvement, but suspicion deepened when nothing was found in his hand luggage.

Tension rose until passengers suggested a body search. Witnesses reported that the suspect grew visibly nervous, prompting a more thorough check. The missing money was eventually discovered hidden in his socks and beneath his seat.

Airport security was immediately called, and the suspect was escorted off the aircraft and handed over to authorities for further investigation. The episode left many passengers shocked and disappointed.

The flight later departed for Abuja after the situation was resolved. As of press time, Ibom Air had not issued an official statement.
