“It was like a boyfriend and girlfriend breaking up and making up all the time,” Pogba previously told Mail Sport, describing their volatile relationship.

Paul Pogba has revealed the severe impact his depression had on his body during his troubled stint at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. The French midfielder, currently without a club after serving an 18-month doping ban, spoke candidly about the mental toll from his frosty relationship with the former United boss.

Pogba was stripped of the vice-captaincy and involved in a tense training ground standoff with Mourinho, who allegedly labelled him a “virus” after a 2-2 draw with Southampton in 2018.

“It was like a boyfriend and girlfriend breaking up and making up all the time,” Pogba previously told Mail Sport, describing their volatile relationship.

Despite helping United win the League Cup and Europa League in 2017, Pogba’s influence waned as tensions escalated. He was regularly benched leading up to Mourinho’s sacking later that year, marking a turbulent chapter in both their careers.
