There’s nothing to show that even the malfunctioning APC is a terrorist organisation or the PDP, which is a credible institution
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a Canadian court ruling that classified it and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as terrorist organisations. The party described the decision as “misinformed, biased, and lacking evidence,” urging its dismissal.
The Federal Court of Canada, on June 17, 2025, upheld a verdict denying asylum to former member Douglas Egharevba, citing his decade-long affiliation with both parties. The Immigration Appeal Division linked the PDP to alleged ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and killings during the 2003 and 2004 elections.
PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, said: “There’s nothing to show that even the malfunctioning APC is a terrorist organisation or the PDP, which is a credible institution.” He urged Canada to target individuals, not entire parties.
Former NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, warned the ruling sets “a political earthquake” with implications beyond Canada, adding that such labels risk undermining democratic legitimacy and silencing political opposition”
