Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was confirmed on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, following a closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba.
Ahon told Vanguard via phone that the decision came after “extensive consultations with political stakeholders” and was made “in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.”
Governor Oborevwori, who won the 2023 governorship election under the PDP, was welcomed into the APC by senior party officials. Political analysts have described the move as a strategic realignment with potential consequences for the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori’s switch marks a significant shift in the South-South political landscape, where the PDP has traditionally maintained strong influence.
The governor has yet to release a formal public statement.
