The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed attempts to bring former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back into its fold. Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi described Obi as “a very, very great capital for any political party” and said the party is undertaking “internal consultations and long‑term strategic planning” to facilitate his return.

Speaking on Arise Television, Abdullahi praised Obi’s resilience amid the 2023 polls, noting he still garnered over six million votes despite what he called “massive rigging” and “deliberate frustration.” “Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed,” he affirmed. Abdullahi added that Obi’s departure dealt a “major setback” to the PDP, but insisted his departure did not diminish “the respect and recognition he still commands within the PDP family.”

As opposition parties prepare for the 2027 elections, the PDP believes re‑absorbing Obi could provide a significant electoral boost and help unify Nigeria’s fragmented opposition.
