Supreme Court upheld Anyanwu’s position as legitimate office-holder.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary. The announcement was made during a press briefing on Wednesday by the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who stated that “Anyanwu will resume as national secretary.”
The position had been the subject of contention following Anyanwu’s candidacy in the 2023 Imo State governorship election. His replacement by Sunday Udeh-Okoye was backed by a Court of Appeal decision in December 2024. However, Anyanwu obtained court orders to restrain the enforcement of that ruling. The Supreme Court later upheld his position as the legitimate secretary.
Damagum described the NWC’s decision as critical, noting that it was made in the interest of party unity. He also hinted at ongoing efforts to resolve internal disagreements ahead of a scheduled caucus meeting on June 30.
