The Peoples Democratic Party has urged the Senate to ensure transparency in confirming INEC’s new chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, warning against any politically motivated process
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned the Senate against a hasty or politically driven confirmation of Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, issued the warning on Friday in Abuja after the inaugural meeting of the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention Venue Sub-Committee, chaired by Oyo Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal.
Ologunagba said Nigerians and the international community were watching closely. “We recognise the constitutional process that allows the President to nominate through the Council of State, which has now been done. The next step is for the Senate to conduct a thorough confirmation hearing on behalf of the Nigerian people,” he stated.
He added that INEC’s credibility and the Senate’s integrity were now under scrutiny, urging lawmakers to ensure transparency and diligence in the process.
