PENGASSAN has ordered a nationwide strike over the dismissal of Nigerian workers by the Dangote Refinery.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has declared a nationwide strike over the dismissal of some Nigerian workers by the Dangote Refinery.

General Secretary Lumumba Okugbawa said after an emergency NEC meeting that the refinery violated labour laws, alleging it replaced Nigerians with “over 2,000 foreign workers.”

“All processes involving gas and crude supply to Dangote Refinery have been suspended immediately,” he said.

Dangote Group dismissed reports of mass layoffs, insisting the reorganisation was limited and aimed at tackling sabotage.

“Over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively in our Petroleum Refinery, at present,” the company said.
