PENGASSAN suspended its nationwide strike against Dangote Refinery out of respect for government intervention but vowed to resume if agreed terms are breached.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended its nationwide strike against Dangote Refinery following the intervention of the Federal Government.

PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo announced the decision during a press briefing on Wednesday, stating the action was halted “out of respect for government institutions, for the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Chief Reconciliator of the Federation, and ministers who worked tirelessly into the early hours of the morning to mediate.”

However, Osifo expressed dissatisfaction with the agreement reached, noting it did not secure the union’s key demand for the reinstatement of 800 workers allegedly dismissed for joining PENGASSAN.

“We are not happy with the terms of the agreement… But out of respect… we decided to suspend the action,” he said, warning, “If Dangote fails to keep its part, we will resume immediately, without any warning.”

The two-day strike had disrupted crude and gas supply to the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery.
