Pep Guardiola is being tipped to leave Manchester City this summer, with former colleagues and pundits suggesting he could bow out after nearly a decade in charge.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is being tipped to leave the club this summer, despite having two years remaining on his contract.
TalkSPORT pundits and former colleagues believe this season could be the “perfect goodbye” for the Spaniard, who has led City to unprecedented domestic success since arriving in 2016.
Guardiola, whose contract runs until 2027, has guided City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup. However, speculation over his future has intensified after former assistant Carles Planchart, who worked with him for 18 years, advised him to seek “a new project.”
“It’s a personal decision he’ll have to make, but I think a project should last five or six years, no more,” Planchart told SPORT. “As a friend, I would tell him to look for a new project because he still has a long way to go.”
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook added, “If he did win the title, or even a Champions League this year, maybe he might think: ‘You know what, this is the time to go.’”
Guardiola previously admitted he considered leaving last season before extending his deal, saying, “I thought this should be the last one, but it was not the right time to leave. I didn’t want to let the club down.”
