Okonkwo said Obi failed to manage the leadership crisis that has rocked the party since the 2023 election.
Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson of the Labour Party (LP), has accused Peter Obi of betrayal and poor leadership in the wake of the party’s lingering post-election crisis. Speaking with Symfoni TV, Okonkwo said Obi failed to distance himself from the Julius Abure-led faction, which he alleged is colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo criticised Obi’s refusal to act despite repeated warnings about Abure’s camp. He claimed the former LP presidential candidate lacked team spirit and alienated loyal party members by endorsing non-LP candidates during key elections. “He is not a team player. He is not a good manager,” Okonkwo said.
“When we started in 2023, it was an organic movement. Every Nigerian wanted change… we felt that something new was appearing on the horizon,” he added, lamenting how internal divisions and poor leadership derailed the momentum of the movement that once inspired widespread national support.
