Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his modest lifestyle, revealing he has no house help and personally tends to chores and guests. His comments followed viral images of him serving food at a charity event in Imo State. “I am genuinely surprised that this simple act has become a topic of discussion,” Obi wrote on X. “I live simply, I sweep, I clean… humility is not a campaign strategy; it is a way of life.” He explained that he stayed longer at the Jubilee of Hope event because poor attendees asked him to serve them personally. “Service is not special, it is expected,” he said. “We cannot speak of building a New Nigeria while ignoring the hungry, the forgotten, and the poor.” Obi emphasized the need for public service to become a cultural norm. Known for his frugality, he once stated he owned only one wristwatch and regularly flew economy.
