Peter Obi: Tinubu reduced National Library project to birthday gifts

Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu for reducing the National Library project to “birthday tokens.”

Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu and other leaders for neglecting education while indulging in frivolous spending.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi congratulated First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on her 65th birthday but faulted her request that well-wishers donate to complete the National Library instead of placing adverts or buying cakes.

“On the surface, it is noble and selfless. But beneath it lies an indictment of our nation,” Obi said.

The former Anambra governor argued that while channeling resources into education is laudable, it does not absolve the government of its responsibilities.

He condemned what he described as wasteful expenditure on jets, yachts, and unused mansions, calling it tragic that the National Library remains abandoned.

“What kind of leaders waste trillions on luxury and vanity, while the National Library, our intellectual furnace, remains abandoned in the capital?” Obi asked.

He urged government to prioritise education, stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on it.
