Petrol still N865 despite Dangote’s price cut, free delivery

Despite Dangote Refinery’s logistics-free petrol delivery at N820 per litre, most filling stations continue to sell above N865, frustrating motorists expecting price relief.

Despite receiving petrol from the Dangote Refinery at N820 per litre with zero logistics costs, most filling stations across Lagos and Ogun states have refused to reduce pump prices, The PUNCH findings revealed on Sunday.

Major marketers including Heyden, AP, and Ardova maintained prices between N865 and N870 per litre, while a few MRS outlets in Lagos adjusted to N841, leading to long queues at their Alapere station. In contrast, the MRS outlet at Olowotedo sold for N875 per litre, while Heyden offered N863.

The Dangote Refinery had announced that its compressed natural gas-powered truck scheme would slash logistics costs and push prices to N841 in Lagos and the South-West, and N851 in Abuja and some South-South states. But nearly three weeks later, the anticipated relief has not materialised.

A source at the refinery accused marketers of exploiting motorists despite already receiving new stock. “It’s unfair to keep selling at old rates. They are receiving the product at N820 per litre with free logistics, yet they’re still selling higher,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria criticised Dangote’s frequent price adjustments, saying they disrupt market stability and competition.
