Kaduna Police have launched an investigation into violence at a political meeting allegedly linked to ex-Governor El-Rufai, suspending all unauthorized gatherings across the state.
The Kaduna State Police Command says it has launched a full-scale investigation into a political meeting reportedly convened by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, which turned violent with sporadic gunshots.
According to SaharaReporters, government-backed thugs attacked the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition meeting at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall, Magadishu Layout, injuring several participants.
In a statement on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Mansir Hassan said preliminary findings indicated that “political gangsters and thugs attached to the former Governor” were responsible for the shooting, which disrupted public peace. He warned that “anyone found culpable, irrespective of his personality and no matter how highly placed… will face the full weight of the law.”
The police said ADC officials denied knowledge of the meeting, distancing themselves from El-Rufai. The Command has now suspended all unauthorized political gatherings statewide and warned hotels and event centers against hosting such meetings without notifying security agencies.
