ABUJA — Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been moved to an undisclosed location by the Nigeria Police after being detained at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja on Wednesday.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Sowore was taken around 6 a.m. Thursday by a police officer linked to Force PRO Muyiwa Adejobi. The officer allegedly broke Sowore’s hand during a scuffle when the activist insisted on dressing before being moved.

Sowore had honoured a police invitation over petitions accusing him of forgery and criminal defamation. He earlier described the invitation as “defective and riddled with legal errors.”

While in custody, Sowore was served two petitions, including one reportedly filed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Bukola Yemisi Kuti, whom he claimed was promoted due to a personal relationship with the IGP.

The case has sparked criticism from civil society, with activists condemning what they see as continued harassment of dissenting voices in Nigeria.
