Edo Police have warned residents and businesses about fraudulent bomb threats used by extortionists to intimidate victims into paying money.

The Edo State Police Command has issued a warning to the public and corporate organisations over a surge in anonymous bomb threats from fraudsters attempting to extort money.

In a statement on Monday, Assistant Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the threats were “clear attempts at extortion through fear and intimidation.” She explained that callers falsely claim explosives have been planted at victims’ premises, demanding money to prevent detonation.

The Command urged residents not to panic or comply with the demands. “Report all such calls or messages immediately to the nearest police station,” Ikoedem said.

Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the deployment of specialised units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Intelligence teams, to investigate and ensure public safety.
